Reed in Partnership celebrates helping 100,000 back to work
Reed in Partnership has held a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons to celebrate a landmark achievement of helping 100,000 long term employed people move off benefits and back into work.
Hosted by Terry Rooney MP, who has championed welfare to work programmes over the last ten years, the event was attended by some of the industry’s leading figures and politicians including Jim Knight, Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform, and Lord Freud, Shadow Minister, Work and Pensions. The celebration marks a milestone in our success of delivering back to work programmes for the long term unemployed receiving state benefits, helping to break down barriers to employment that these groups often face such as lack of confidence, child care issues, and training.
Chris Melvin, Chief Executive, Reed in Partnership comments: “I’m very proud of the role we have played in helping thousands of people to change their lives for the better over the last twelve years. However in difficult economic times it is more important than ever to ensure the long term unemployed don’t get left behind, so tonight’s event was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the continued issues and barriers faced by people on long term benefits.”
Terry Rooney, MP comments: “Employment is the most sustainable route out of poverty and the work that organisations such as Reed in Partnership do is vital in helping this hard to reach group back into the workplace. Getting 100,000 people back into work is an incredible achievement and I’m very pleased to be hosting this event.”
Reed in Partnership has been helping the long-term unemployed, single parents and those on benefits back into sustainable employment since 1998.
