Employment Zones (Single Parent) were introduced in 2000 to reduce unemployment levels in 15 of the most deprived areas in the UK. They are voluntary programmes, lasting up to 26 weeks which provide single parents who are not working 16 or more hours a week, or receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance, with individually tailored packages of support to help them return to work.
